Difference between Vedic and Western astrology

We live in a fast-paced life, which keeps on unfolding itself from moment to moment. There are times when we face trouble in getting the desired results even after putting in the effort. However, some people succeed in life quickly without any difficulties with minimum efforts. This happens only because of favorable circumstances that help these people in overcoming their difficulties. These favorable circumstances are greatly affected by the position of stars and planet at the time of birth. Vedic and western astrology today are two major branches that can find specific answers and can help in the prediction of future events considering the position of stars and planets in a house in the present time.

Six limbs of Jyotish or astrology

There are six pillars on which astrology stands. They are as follows:-

Gola:-

It is also known as observational and spherical astronomy which is used to identify the new planets in the sky and to find co-relation on how it can affect the life of a human on earth.

Ganita: -

Astrology requires complex mathematical calculations. This cannot be done without applying mathematical laws that govern the solar system.

Jataka:-

The branch of astronomy which deals with previous and afterlife is called Jataka. The literature consists of voluminous details about the previous life of Gautama Buddha both in the animal as well as a human form.

Prashana: -

Horoscopic astrology which is used by astrologer to answer the specific questions of the clients. The questions can be related to family, about work, career, or relationship with spouse.

Muhurata: -

This becomes essential whenever we are organizing any pious activity in the Hindu family. The priest uses this knowledge to take out the dates on which the event shall be done to get favorable circumstances. This is often used in organizing a marriage ceremony between the two families.

Nimita: -

The interpretation of omen becomes essential if we see that even on doing every possible thing; we are not getting the desired results. Nimita is used by astrologers to interpret if there were any omens to a family member that is making the house weak.

Difference between Vedic astrology and Western astrology

Vedic astrology is based on the position of the constellation with respect to earth. Olden people observed stars at night and found some patterns in a group of stars. They named each one of them based on their resemblance to living creatures on the earth. For example, Virgo as the virgin, or Leo as a lion. In Vedic astrology, one stresses on the planet position according to the birth date and can predict the future or the favorable circumstances to find out the possibility of events. It is said that the position of planets affects day to day activity of human. It can affect the way we think, as well as how we respond. The roots of Vedic astrology are from Indian culture. Vedas is the primary source that consists of 4 books separately. They are Rig Veda, Sam Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda.

Western astrology is the branch of astrology that utilizes tropical zodiac as its fundamental property. The housing system of the western astrology is based on the degree of ascendants as the beginning of the first house. We use all planets like Uranus, Pluto, and Neptune in the housing system to determine the ruling planet in the house.

Which one is more accurate and better among  Vedic or western astrology?

It is a matter of debate which type of astrology is more accurate in predicting the outcomes or possibility of events in the future. There are many examples in the past where astrologer has predicted their accurate time of death using Vedic astrology. However, it does not mean that they can predict anything. Astrology has a long way to go, and further depth of knowledge is essential for predicting any specific topics. We might have to use the modern age tools or supercomputers to achieve that thing.

Today we have achieved a lot in the exploration of the universe by using western astrology techniques. Some of the prediction made is accurate, while others are true with some changes. The accuracy of any prediction is based on the probability of events that can occur. If the possibility is high, then the event will happen while if the chances are low, the events are considered to be of chance.

Importance of Vedic astrology

The Vedas is the most authentic source which provides detailed information about the Universe. You will be surprised to know how accurate the measurements were done for calculating the distance between the earth and the sun with the precision of the 8th decimal place. Scientists in the modern era are shocked how can this be possible in such olden times where we did not have sophisticated and smart machines. Vedic astrology uses the mathematic laws that are accurate for predicting the position of the planet on the house. This helps in determining the ruling planet and can interpret the dominating traits of a person.

It is said that if Vedic astrology were not there, we would not have so-called western astrology as well. Even modern astrology has some connections with Vedic astrology. They help to understand the relationship between the positions of planets at the current time that can affect human events.

Scope of western astrology

Astrology in the modern era is not limited to finding the chances of future events to happen in real life. This knowledge can be used for the exploration of new planets in the universe and finding the correlation between the other planets. The scope of western astrology is unlimited. One needs a better understanding and applying the basic rules in proper and justified ways.
